 US History: Lesson 1: Fresh-Soph
« Thread Started on Feb 19, 2008, 9:01pm »

US History had to be Seth Peterson's least favorite class to teach. The students were young - too young to know enough about the stuff that really interested him or to process the theories of famous historians. Then, there was the curriculum. Colonizing America. The Revolution. The Civil War, or the War Between the States or the War of Northern Aggression - whatever happened to be politically correct at the time.

He would have to drag through all of these boring topics before being allowed to spend about a week on the Cold War and the at home reaction to Vietnam. Oh, how he hated curriculums. Still, it was history, so he had some enthusiasm about it. If anything, his students would walk away knowing at least one credible historian and hopefully having a passion for history as well.

Seth was sitting in his office, staring at the clock. He only had five more minutes before he would be stuck in a room for an hour with underclassmen who did not know the Cuban Missile Crisis from a Cuban sandwich. Begrudgingly, he stood and began to gather what he would need - papers, a textbook and a few dry erase markers. For his younger students, he would write things on the board for them to copy down, but as the students got older, his notes would grow more and more sparse. By the time students were seniors, he would only lecture and not write down anything, save for those hard to spell names from Communist China. He felt that this would better prepare them for college.

Leaving his office, he turned off the light and shut the door, locking it behind him. Seth whistled idly as he walked down the hallway to his classroom. The last time he'd walked down this hallway, he had the pleasure of running into April Hyatt, the beautiful art teacher. This time, his walk was a lot less interesting.

He opened the door to see a room full of students sitting in almost every desk in the room. He set his stack of books and papers down on his desk. Walking in front of it, he sat down on the desktop, facing his class. "Alright, guys. I'm Seth Peterson. Call me Mister Peterson or else the administration will get mad. Welcome to US History. Now, are there any history fans out there?" He asked with a grin.

-> i’ll watch you crash and burn

Gabriel opened the door to his History class. Of course Gabriel wasn’t trying to be quiet nor did he look sorry for being late. He stepped into the classroom scanning the group of his new classmates... And someone was in his seat, How was he going to fall asleep in class or somehow pull pranks on this unsuspecting man if he was stuck in the front row? “Yo’, Seth” He smirked greeting the teacher purposely using only his first name. Many would say it had been disrespectful, He just wanted to see how much he could get away in this class. It was always good to know your limits, so that you can push them later.

He sat down at the desk in the front row near the door not trying to minimize the noise he was making at all. ‘Now, are there any history fans out there?’ Gabe raised a eyebrow at his teachers’ words. Was there such a thing as a ‘History fan?’
He was dress his he normally dressed, in a black t-shirt that read ‘Role Model’ in white across the front and a pair of loose fitting blue jeans and beat up skateshoes. His dark brown hair was all spiked in different directions. He messed with the black wrist band that was wrapped around his wrist. He just sat there slouched in his seat watching his teacher, a look in his eyes that was almost begging that this Mr. Peterson guy would break a fuse and give the class something more interesting to watch... after all he had been pretty obnoxious.

True Gabriel Fischer was a bit of a trouble maker, and most people knew it. He didn’t really mean anything by his snide remarks, He just wanted to have some fun. For him making people angry was considered fun.
