Stepping back into the classroom after taking a smoke, Elizabeth sprayed air freshener so that it would mask most of the scent her clothes gave off. She wasn’t ashamed of what she did, but the last thing this new teacher wanted was her students asking questions and bothering her about her own business. Taking out a new stack of books out of her cardboard box and piling them up on her desk, she knew after this class she would need some coffee. Pulling her short red hair away from her pale face and warm brown eyes, the sound of students from the hall illuminated her eyes. ‘Time to get started!’ Now these were the juniors and seniors. Now this would be interesting.
Swinging the door open, inviting the students in, Elizabeth walked into the center semi circle of desks. She placed her hands on her hips, a smirk on her face.
“ Welcome my fair students! Take a seat, please.” Her eyes followed a few students to their desk, awaiting to start class. With these students, she would be able to have a bit more fun. They would explore a bit more of the acting, putting more feeling in the act and maybe even a musical or two. Elizabeth couldn’t help but be excited, since this would be more interesting then learning the dynamics of plays and movement on stage.
“Okay class. My name is Elizabeth Stone, but you all will be calling me Miss Stone, I am sure. I moved here from Maryland and I graduated from the University of Maryland. So I am not exactly used to this really snowy weather.” She began, making eye contact with a few kids. “ But since I am a new teacher, I don’t know any of your names. So we are going to play a bit of a game.”
Walking over to the board in the front of the class, she wrote out ‘My name is ____. I come from ____’. Then she returned to the center of the desks, which was arranged in a circular way.
“ Okay, this is how it goes. For the first blank, you put in your name. The next, you think of a place that starts with the first letter of your first name. I will go around and ask everyone to say there answer.”
Swiftly turning around, dress staying tight against her skin, Elizabeth tapped on the desk of a student who was right in front of her.
“You. You start.” She decided, stepping back from the student.
